...huh?

Yeah. I agree with Dj Felix for once. You were a jerk to him, but I'm not holding that against you with this review.

Again, why is this under trance? It has NOTHING to do with the genre you picked. In fact, I don't see it as electronica at all. Also, listen to my things or just listen to a popular artist that makes trance. If you need examples, DJ Tiesto, ATB, Paul Van Dyk, and Armin Van Buuren are great DJs who produce good trance. Take notes of the things they do and then try it yourself. You may end up producing a great track.

For this track however:

Positive: I really don't see much, other than it's short, so it saves me from listening to 5 minutes worth of this panning noise. And I do mean that in a whole-hearted sense.

Negative: There are too many things that I could say, but I'll sum it up:

1) Put beats in. If you want trance, you need at least a kick, hi hat, and snare. Maybe a clap and wood blocks.

2) Get a melody. I really don't hear an overlying melody in this song. Please get one to produce a great trance track.

3) Don't use panning as much. A little is ok, or certain instruments it's ok. But don't do it for half the song, which in this case is <40 seconds...

4) Please get more trance-ish instruments in this song. If you want trance, then get a nice trance lead. I don't care if it's generic, it's better than the "I'm going to die" strings.

5) Get a better cut-off on the ending. It all of a sudden ends. People usually don't like that, and don't say "It's a style thing." People don't like to hear cut off and sliced music. It just doesn't flow into the ears, especially for a trance track.

Now, you can hear my stuff and hear what I do when I tell you this, and I will say that I'm not "amazing" or "NG's best" or whatever. I do what I can, and I'm pretty sure that if you try to fix those things, this song will sound completely different...

sorry but im not editing this!

hmm

instrument used in the beginning: trancegate using Styrus. i know cause i've used it...and everyone else has, but for your first song that's pretty good. here are some things to get and work on.

I'd recommend getting:

1)the full version of FL8. buy it or borrow it from a friend or something.
2) get some high quality VST plugins. a few good ones are:
a)v-station
b)nexus
c)z3ta+
d)hypersonic
3)don't spend less than an hour on a song. and that's on the lower end. some people work on a song for a few months, but i think that's too much. he he.

try to follow these steps and your songs should gradually improve.

momboom1 responds:

Thanks for the review. One question though, do you download Nexus? If you do can you send me a link please? And I have gotten the Full version of FL8 recently.

great

Some EQing could be done, but I see that what hard work you put in this paid off. (Top 5).

But yeah, I'm serious about EQing it. It peaked a few times, and it's not my headphones. (I got Pioneer HDJ-1000, w00t!)

Anyways, keep up the good work.

Yeah I still learning how to master songs but I am getting there... Anyways thanks for the review!!

speculation

So, what did you actually do to this song to make it a remix and not just a sped up version of the remix?

I'm just curious.

Do you have the acappella of the vocals and built it? If so, it's a nice remix I must say.

Or, if you took the lazy way and just added a few extra synths, poop on you.

At any rate, please lower the tempo.

Helblinde responds:

Made everything from scratch, had the acapella and built the song after it :)
I wouldn't be able to call myself a producer otherwise.

Thanks for your review, but I wont lower the tempo for now since it's UK Hardcore :)

hmm

I like the sound, but I got some suggestions for this song.

This song sounds way different than what you usually make, which i like with artists. One thing to do later in the song is to have more sounds on the offbeat, sounds a bit more trancey. I know you want the hard techy kinda feel, but to make it more...i don't know, more head-nodding i guess one could call it.

So...yeah. At first i didn't think that it should be under trance, but it's a long stretch to call it that. I'm not an expert of genre-judging, so don't yell at me if i'm completely off or something.

Well, keep making music.

Karco responds:

Hey Derrick!

Yeah, I was trying a different style with this one, that's obvious enough. The "more sounds on the offbeat" thing I wouldn't call a rule though, not if it means hurting creativity (offbeat bass), etc. Though I had a synth playing only on the offbeat throughout, wasn't that enough? ;D

I responded to why I put this under Trance already in a review that's currently at the bottom of the first page (8 reviews between this one and that one). Give it a look if you want to. ;)

Thanks for the review and the high ratings!

hmm

are you new to fl, or are you just seeing how 5 minutes using fl does on NG? i'd guess that you have the demo and just found out what the "piano roll" function does.

I would like to hear the finished product though. Check out my first song, maybe that'll give you some pointers on using fl as a beginner...the song is called Frantic and is the most absolute worst song
a) that i've ever made
and
b) worst that i've heard but won't admit it since i made it. lol

to be honest about this "song", i could make this in a minute. flat. like, i would just put in a random synth and put in a chord progression, one to my liking. but i'm not trying to be harsh about it, i'm just saying that if you put more time into a song, people will appreciate it more. but, there is a barrier there, but that's not important now. just keep practicing.

i didnt use fl studio.....notessimo

hmmm

what program did you use? This sounds like you just used a dj program with the original track and used beat matching technology with pre-made percussion...If you did this in FL, or reason 4.0...it would sound a whole lot better...

sounds to me like you put in kicks, hi hats, and cymbals and sped up the lyrics.

Completely remake em using one of those programs, and put more time into it, I'd 5 and 10 it for ya.

beatmania responds:

Thanks man, all of my music is made out of boredom in FL Studio.

This particular track was made in about 10-15 minutes. :D

And yeah, it's jsut a short anime theme sped up.

lol

added "some" more stuff, like a whole new melody, changed bassline and changed harmony along with some more stuff.

But, you did the percussion, intro, and the first breakdown, along with the sounds for the original melodies and such.

that was for just who were wondering, that's all.

keep it in the freezer, yo.
Im gonna fav this. lol.

...

how does this song make it to top 5???? wow. i made this like 3 months ago.

listen to my latest. do you feel good taht you beat me??? I submitted my track this morning at 3am, and it got 26 reviews. 26 REVIEWS. avg. score of 9.6.

how about you remove that distortion? sounds n00b...I'm surprised the top 5, especially when I've heard about 20 better songs than this.

get some better percussion samples. Also, your ending cut off too quickly. let it fade. it sounded too awkward. wnat more things to fix??? I can make a whole list. If I were you, i'd get on it before you get more ppl zero bombing you...

also, check out my latest and see the comparison of this song and mine, and be honest whether you think deserved the top 5 more, but we can't choose, can we?

I'm not blaming it on you, just leaving an honest review.

Ablationer responds:

The point wasn't to be on top 5, if you're mad at that, that's your problem not mine, sorry if your tune wasn't on it, deal with it.

For the distortion it is meant to, ever listen to Mr.Ozio? You know albums like Analog Worms Attack? or at the very least Daft Punk in the early years? Yeah that's what I mean, lots of people didn't like tunes like Rollin' & Scratchin' or Indo Silver Club because they sounded too awkward or even displeasant to some people, but that's the point.

Sure I could have used a ton of random trance loops put together and call that making a tune, but that's not the point, there're already tons of tunes like that on newgrounds, I'm just making something different, that's my style, that's me.

Deal with it.

W00T!

I WANNA SEE THIS ON TOP 5!!!!

it SO reminds me of ATB!

I can listen to this all day. Make a 20 minute track. I'll download it.

Karco responds:

Ha, glad you like it that much! :D And I seriously doubt it'll get finished, but if it does, you'll be one of the first to know. ;) Thanks for the review!
